John Barry and family were present at the Royal World Charity Premiere of the latest James Bond film Die Another Day. Jonpatrick Barry presented the souvenir brochure to The Queen.
Revised John Barry book "John Barry - A Life In Music" delayed until 2003.
First CD release for "The Cool Mikado". "The Legendary el Records Returns To celebrate the forthcoming reactivation of el records, the label is pleased to be instigating a programme to re-release authentic, stylish, highly regarded and long deleted original film soundtracks from the sixties beginning with Michael Winner's 1962 Gilbert & Sullivan film parody 'The Cool Mikado' (ACME 34CD).
The soundtrack features original music by the John Barry Seven, songs performed in characteristic style by Frankie Howerd and comic sketches involving Tommy Cooper, Mike & Bernie Winters, Pete Murray and Stubby Kaye.
Initially released on Parlophone, has been deleted almost four decades and is a highly prized collectors item with original copies (if they can be found at all) fetching in excess of £100.
Therefore, this stylish re-issue of 'The Cool Mikado' is sure to be welcomed by film buffs, el aficionados and (indeed) the record-buying public alike.

The cd is available through the online ordering service on the Cherryred website.

John Barry was back in York today where he became an Honorary Freeman of York, the city's highest honour. (We hope this link lasts. I have been updating it three times now. Please, let us know if it doesn't).
"The 2002 James Bond Celebrity Golf Classic and Gala Dinner will take place on Friday 28th June at the prestigious Stoke Poges, Stoke Park Club." The Variety Club (click on 'News', then 'News Stories') "will be presenting the prestigious GoldenEye award to John Barry, one of the most well-respected and successful film composers of all time, for his contribution to the music of Bond."
For those interested, sleeves and tracks list for THE IPCRESS FILE and MASQUERADE are now on the Silva Screen web-site, although the IPCRESS FILE is not quite correct as the dialogue tracks are not as yet listed. James Fitzp.
"Don't support this release, wait until the SILVA CD of IPCRESS FILE comes out. And maybe in two or three years someone will be able to revisit BILLION DOLLAR BRAIN." Ford A. Thaxton.
More from James FitzPatrick about The Ipcress File: the "official" re-release of THE IPCRESS FILE - remastered with a few choice dialogue extracts - is being released on the Silva Screen Records label in August. This is the first release in Silva Screen long-term deal with Carlton TV who own not only all the Rank catalogue of titles but all the ITC TV.
Beware of an Ipcress File/Billion Dollar Brain CD. This is a bootleg.
Luc vd Ven has news on Masquerade. MASQUERADE will be released around 17 june, at the same time as the latest issue of SOUNDTRACK magazine: "a new magazine, a new Prometheus 'club' CD". The CD has 25 tracks (56 minutes). Keep an eye on http://www.soundtrackmag.com/ Also see below.
Stephen Woolston just heard that EMI are planning to re-issue the Bond soundtracks in November, they will be remastered with new artwork but at the moment there are NO plans for extra music.
James FitzPatrick of Silva Screen Records announces that after two years of negotiation with Carlton, Silva Screen have concluded a deal which includes THE IPCRESS FILE.
Vic Flick spoke to John the other day and he confirms JB is feeling very well after a successful hip operation!
Messrs Leonard, Bramley & Walker are now hard at work on re-editing their book "John Barry - A Life In Music". Set to be published to coincide with the release of "Die Another Day", the new Bond.
We would like to wish John all the best for a speedy recovery after his recent hip operation.
3rd March 2002: Ford A. Thaxton reported to the John Barry discussion group that next week he is going into the studio and edit and master the album. Right now the plan is to have the CD contain the entire score and then a suite of original source cues that Barry composed for the film (i.e like the HAMMETT CD).
After it's assembled, he is going to submit to both MGM and John Barry for their approval.
Assuming they wish no changes, work begins on the artwork and such. The CD will sound great!!! The the original 32 Digital masters were discovered, so it will sound better then ever.
James FitzPatrick wrote: Having now spoken to "the horse's mouth" - namely Luc of Prometheus Records, I can inform you that MAY will be the official release month for Masquerade and that it is more likely to be late May rather than early.
This is because Prometheus are releasing FLESH & BLOOD in March and they like to have a bit of a gap between each release. This also makes perfect economic sense as being a small label there is always the cinsideration of outgoings, cashflow etc...

Ford A. Thaxton reports on the John Barry discussion group "After a rather long search we just this week found the digital multi-track masters to the score and production on the master started on Friday.
It will be coming out very shortly, it will be the next release from the PROMETHEUS Club right after the expanded CD release of FLESH + BLOOD by Basil Poledouris.
The sound is INCREDIBLE!!! It will be well worth the wait."
Silva Screen "have no plans this year (2002) to record any more John Barry. Silva Screen have now recorded about all the Barry music that they want to (in excess of 600 minutes worth). So it will need a generous benefactor, ala Geoff Leonard, to get any more Barry albums done." (James FitzPatrick, Silva Screen.)
