whisperers Blu RayJanuary 14th, 2020

Kino Lorber, B&W, 1967, 106 Minutes 1.66:1, Region A

From Bryan Forbes, the legendary writer/director of Séance on a Wet Afternoon, The Wrong Box, The Stepford Wives and The Naked Face comes this gripping classic about an elderly woman who becomes increasingly ensnared by her own world of delusion and exploited by the very real world of morally corrupt people. Three-time Oscar nominee Dame Edith Evans received her final Oscar nomination (Best Actress in a Leading Role) for her performance as the eccentric Mrs. Ross, living alone in a meager apartment and hearing “whisperers” that plot against her. The whispering voices are right—but will anyone believe her? Gerry Turpin’s (Morgan: A Suitable Case of Treatment) stunning photography and John Barry’s (The Lion in Winter) haunting score are two of this powerful psychological drama’s best features.

World premiere of John Barry soundtrack plus remastered original album on CD!

From "Doug's Corner, Intrada website:

"A tough act to follow for Barry fans. But one of my own most-played John Barry albums in my youth was King Rat, the Bryan Forbes WWII prisoner of war film with George Segal, written by James Clavell.

As part of our well-regarded series of Mainstream and Ava label CDs, mixed and mastered from the first generation master elements, we initially planned on just bringing out the best release of Barry’s classic re-recorded stereo Mainstream album.

Upon delivery of the masters, we made the incredible discovery of finding, amongst the many rolls of tape, the long-lost and never-before-released masters for the actual soundtrack itself, a darker and moodier musical masterpiece.Barry’s film soundtrack is an entirely different experience from his opened-up and thematically-expanded Mainstream album. Both musical experiences are terrific."

Hugely expanded 3-CD release of action-packed John Barry score to early Marvel Superhero film!

More information on the Intrada store website

From "Doug's Corner, Intrada website:

"Over 100 minutes of original Barry music for Universal’s early Marvel superhero movie, Howard The Duck from executive producer George Lucas probably headlines for most listeners.

Literally packed with Barry at his best, from riveting sci-fi action music to smoky shades of film noir, from beautifully gentle romantic moods to the best of James Bond.

3-CDs offer all of Barry’s music, most of it never-before-released, his numerous alternates and re-scored cues plus replacement music scored by Sylvester Levay, also previously unreleased.

All of Thomas Dolby’s songs, performed in the movie by star Lea Thompson’s all-female band also appear, as does the premiere CD release of MCA’s original 40-minute album."

Follow Me on DVD and Blu-ray - 19th August

Follow Me BD 2dWe are delighted to bring you the news that Network are releasing Follow Me! (The Public Eye) on DVD (Region B) and blu-ray on 19th August.

The really exciting part is that it will also contain, as an extra, John Barry's complete score, taken from the master tapes.

So, at long last we will get the opportunity to hear the entire score (and maybe a little more) officially, and in great quality!

All praise to Network who continue to try and bring us hard to find films and music at a very reasonable price.

 From the Network website:

If there’s one thing we love to do at Network it's to take series and films that were roundly ignored (or pilloried) on their original release and make them available to appreciative new viewers – and you'll probably never find a better example of an overlooked gem than Follow Me. Even director Carol Reed's biography makes scant mention of this, his directorial swansong.

Hollywood ingénue Mia Farrow and stalwart character actor Michael Jayston star as a married couple in crisis – suspecting his wife of infidelity, the husband hires a private detective (Topol, then at the height of his Fiddler on the Roof fame) to follow her, only to set into motion an elaborate game of cat and mouse. Adapted from the popular play The Public Eye, by award-winning writer Peter Shaffer, Follow Me showcases its dazzling London locations to memorable effect, set to a haunting score by legendary composer John Barry.

With all these elements in play, Follow Me seemed assured of success, and yet it inexplicably underperformed on release. Disappearing into oblivion, it’s now fondly remembered as a much sought-after film, barely glimpsed on television and virtually unobtainable on home media.

Now, with everyone here at Network falling for its gentle-but-infectious humour, we’re setting the record straight and are proud to reintroduce Follow Me to viewers with this release – presented in its original Panavision widescreen aspect ratio from High Definition materials supplied by Universal. It includes a limited edition booklet by John Barry expert Geoff Leonard and Professor Laura Mayne and – in a world first – John Barry's original score as an isolated music track. Previously only available commercially as a re-recording – and edited down in the film itself – this will be the first time that Barry's original, full-length cues have been heard anywhere outside Universal's editing room in 1971.

Part whimsical romantic comedy, part dreamy London time capsule, this beguiling film deserves the wider audience that eluded it originally in theatres – it’s long past time for it to finally have its day in the sun.

Bringing the fabulous and iconic music of James Bond to you in a stunning concert, this show has been a huge success at theatres with its energetic and exciting performance by some of the UK’s leading musicians. The show will be compered by the lovely Caroline Bliss who played Moneypenny in The Living Daylights and Licence To Kill.

Featuring all the songs from the 007 movies, you can hear the greats like Goldfinger, Diamonds Are Forever, Skyfall, Thunderball, Live And Let Die, Goldeneye and Licence To Kill amongst all the others.

With top musicians and a former Bond girl compering, this concert has everything you want for a fantastic night out – one that you will be talking about for many years to come.

Everybody loves James Bond, it is estimated that half the world’s population has seen a Bond film. Countless awards have been lavished upon the series and they have starred some of the best known actors and actresses of all time.

These fantastic films would not be complete without a theme tune. When you hear those opening bars of Monty Norman’s main Bond theme you know you’re in for thrills, exotic locations, wonderful gadgets, Bond Girls, fast cars and of course those iconic characters who are loved by millions, Miss Moneypenny, M and of course Q.

The Bond themes are a signature element of the franchise; of course every Spy needs his theme song. Written specifically to fit the new film and provide that extra helping of movie gold, this unique tradition has featured original performances from legends such as Shirley Bassey, Adele, Nancy Sinatra, Carly Simon, Paul McCartney, Duran Duran, Lulu and Alicia Keys to name but a few.

With this in mind, this amazing concert is brought to you by the cream of top musicians plucked from leading orchestras and West End shows gathering to perform all the Bond Themes.  The orchestral sound is topped off by the stunning vocals of Kerry Schultz. Whether you’re a James Bond fanatic or just a concert fan, this show has something for everyone, outstanding songs, extraordinarily talented musicians, powerful vocals and top entertainment.

Q The Music Show is an award winning Tribute band - in the National Entertainment Awards 2013 both the band and Kerry won awards, Best UK Tribute Band & Best UK Female Vocalist.  The band are a popular choice for corporate and private entertainment and have been booked all over the UK, Monte Carlo, Germany, Switzerland, Italy, Guernsey, Majorca, Gibraltar, Cyprus and Czech Republic, establishing themselves amongst James Bond fan clubs around the world and are regarded as the world’s No.1 James Bond Concert & Tribute. In 2019, the show made its debut on the West End, selling out the Adelphi Theatre and receiving critical acclaim in The Times. The show will also be appearing at Piz Gloria in the Swiss Alps, as part of the fan celebrations for the 50th Anniversary of On Her Majesty’s Secret Service. The event will be attended by George Lazenby.

In 2017 they were asked to perform at Sir Roger Moore’s official memorial event in front of Royalty and the who’s who of the British film industry including Sir Michael Caine, Dame Joan Collins and David Walliams.
